SAT practice test: free digital SAT questions with explanations

…

A digital SAT practice test with original questions in the style of both sections: Reading and Writing (one short text per question) and Math. Start with 5 free questions, then take two timed 40-question tests at the real SAT pace, with an explanation for every answer and a score per section.

How many questions are on the digital SAT, and how long is it?

Since 2024 the SAT is taken on a laptop or tablet in College Board's Bluebook app. It has two sections, each split into two modules. Your result on the first module decides whether the second module is easier or harder (the test is adaptive).

SectionQuestionsTime
Reading and Writing54 (2 modules of 27)64 min (2 x 32)
Math44 (2 modules of 22)70 min (2 x 35)
Total982 h 14 min, plus a 10-minute break

Each module includes 2 unscored pretest questions. Each section is scored 200-800, for a total of 400-1600. A built-in Desmos graphing calculator is available for the whole Math section, and you may also bring an approved calculator. Some math questions ask you to type in your answer instead of choosing one. MyLevel tests are a shorter mixed practice, not a full adaptive SAT: each has 40 multiple-choice questions (20 reading and writing, 20 math) with a 55-minute timer, the same average pace as the real sections: about 71 seconds per reading and writing question and 95 seconds per math question.

What is on the SAT? Topics per section

Every Reading and Writing question has its own short text (a few sentences, sometimes a pair of texts or a small table). College Board lists four content domains:

Math has four domains: Algebra (13-15 questions: linear equations, functions, systems and inequalities), Advanced Math (13-15: quadratics, exponentials and other nonlinear functions), Problem-Solving and Data Analysis (5-7: ratios, percentages, probability and statistics) and Geometry and Trigonometry (5-7: area, volume, triangles, circles and right-triangle trigonometry). A formula sheet is provided. Counts from the SAT Student Guide, checked 16 October 2026.

All questions on this page are original MyLevel practice questions on these published topics. They are not real SAT questions, and no site can legally sell those.

What is a good SAT score?

There is no pass mark: colleges look at your score next to everything else in your application, and many publish the middle 50% range of their admitted students. Two official reference points:

After each MyLevel test you see your raw score per section and an indicative band. It shows where to practise next; it does not convert to an SAT score on the 400-1600 scale.

Free official practice, and what MyLevel adds

Start with the free tools from College Board: official full-length adaptive practice tests in the Bluebook app, and free SAT practice on Khan Academy. They are the closest thing to the real test, and we recommend taking at least one.

MyLevel is for the practice in between: shorter timed sets you can finish in under an hour, with a clear explanation for every answer and a score per section, so you see quickly whether words in context, grammar, algebra or quadratics need work. Then retake the test after you study.

The pack costs $9.99, one time: two timed 40-question tests, explanations, a score per section and a practice certificate. No subscription and no time limit on access. One purchase also unlocks every other MyLevel job test.

Frequently asked questions

How many questions are on the SAT?

98 questions: 54 in Reading and Writing (64 minutes) and 44 in Math (70 minutes), each section in two modules, with a 10-minute break. The total testing time is 2 hours 14 minutes. Each module has 2 unscored pretest questions.

Is the digital SAT adaptive?

Yes, by module. Each section starts with a module of easy, medium and hard questions. How you do on it decides whether your second module is easier or harder. MyLevel's practice tests are fixed sets of 40 questions, not adaptive.

Can you use a calculator on the SAT?

Yes, on the whole Math section. Bluebook has a built-in Desmos graphing calculator, and you may bring an approved calculator of your own. The Reading and Writing section has no math.

Is there a free SAT practice test?

Yes. College Board offers free full-length adaptive practice tests in the Bluebook app, and Khan Academy has free official SAT practice. On this page the first 5 questions are free with explanations; the two timed tests are $9.99 once.

Are these real SAT questions?

No. These are original questions written by MyLevel in the style of the digital SAT sections. Real SAT questions are not for sale, and the only official practice questions come from College Board.

Can I unlock only this test?

There is one option, so you never have to choose: the $9.99 job pack, one time. It unlocks the 2 full tests on this page and every other MyLevel job test, with no subscription and a full refund within 14 days if it does not help you.

Do I get a certificate?

Yes. After a full practice test you can download a MyLevel practice certificate (PDF) with your name and score. It is a personal record of your practice, not an official document and not an SAT score.
