How the typing test works
You get a short everyday text. The timer starts with your first key and runs for 60 seconds. Copy and paste is switched off, and the time is measured by MyLevel's server, not by your browser.
How WPM is calculated
Your speed is net words per minute: only characters you typed correctly count, and every 5 characters count as one word. Accuracy is the share of your typed characters that were correct. Typing fast with many mistakes therefore does not give a high score.
What is a good typing speed?
It depends on the job: employers that ask for a typing speed usually state the WPM they expect in the job advert, so check the advert. Once enough people have taken this test, your result also shows how you compare with other MyLevel test-takers.
Typing certificate
For $5.99, one time, you get a PDF practice certificate with your name, your net WPM, your accuracy, whether you typed on a phone or a computer, the date, a certificate number and a QR code that opens a public verification page. Your best result counts, so you can retake the free test as often as you like.
How to type faster
- Keep your fingers on the home row (ASDF and JKL;) and use all ten fingers.
- Aim for accuracy first; speed follows.
- Look at the text, not at the keys.
- Practise ten minutes a day rather than two hours once a week.

As net words per minute: correct characters divided by 5, per minute. Accuracy is the share of correct characters. The time is measured by our server.
Can I take the typing test on my phone?

Can I improve my result after buying the certificate?
Yes. Retake the free test as often as you like; the certificate always shows your best result.
Is there a subscription?
