What graduate aptitude tests look like
Many UK graduate schemes, internships and training contracts begin with online aptitude tests soon after you apply. The formats are similar across test publishers, although length and timing vary by employer, so check your invitation for the exact test:
- Numerical reasoning: questions on tables and charts (percentages, ratios, currency conversion), often around 18 questions in about 25 minutes.
- Verbal reasoning: short passages followed by statements you mark True, False or Cannot Say, often around 30 questions in about 19 minutes.
- Inductive (logical) reasoning: sequences of shapes where you spot the rules and pick the next figure, often around 24 questions in about 25 minutes.
- Critical thinking: law firms and some other employers use tests in the style of the Watson-Glaser, with around 40 questions on inferences, assumptions, deductions, interpretation and evaluating arguments.

How to prepare in a week
- Try the free questions to get used to each format.
- Take test 1 under time pressure, then read every explanation, including those for questions you got right.
- Drill your weakest section: percentage change, ratios and currency conversion for numerical; the difference between False and Cannot Say for verbal.
- Take test 2 a few days later and compare your section scores.
How scores are judged
There is usually no fixed pass mark. Your raw score is compared with a norm group, such as other graduates, and converted into a percentile. Each employer sets its own cut-off: scoring above the 50th percentile is commonly described as giving a reasonable chance of progressing, while employers with many applicants often set the bar higher. MyLevel's bands are a guide for practice, not official norms.
MyLevel is independent and is not affiliated with SHL, Pearson (Watson-Glaser), Talent Q or any employer. All questions are original practice questions written by MyLevel; they are not real test items.
Frequently asked questions
Are these real SHL, Talent Q or Watson-Glaser questions?
No. Every question is original and written by MyLevel in the formats graduate employers commonly use. MyLevel is not affiliated with SHL, Pearson (Watson-Glaser), Talent Q or any employer.
How long are the full practice tests?
Each full test has 36 questions and a 36-minute time limit: 9 numerical, 9 verbal, 9 inductive and 9 critical thinking questions. Real tests usually cover one format at a time, so this is a demanding all-round workout.
What is the difference between False and Cannot Say?
Choose False only when the passage contradicts the statement. If the statement might be true or false and the passage does not tell you, the answer is Cannot Say.
What score do I need for a graduate scheme?
There is no single pass mark. Employers compare your result with a norm group and set their own cut-offs, which are often higher in competitive sectors such as law, banking and consulting. Your MyLevel result shows an indicative band to help you judge how ready you are.
Do I get a certificate?
Yes. The full pack lets you create a MyLevel practice certificate (PDF) with your name, score, certificate number and a QR code to verify it. It records your practice result; it is not an official test result.
How much does it cost?
The 5 free questions cost nothing and need no sign-up. The full pack, with both timed tests, explanations and the certificate, is $12.99 as a one-time payment, with no subscription.
